The franchise has gone through many name changes. They started as the Chicago Packers (1961-1962) and then became the Chicago Zephyrs
(1962-1963). Then they moved to Baltimore, where they became the Baltimore Bullets (1963-1972). Moving to Washington, DC, they became the Capital Bullets (1973-1974) and then the Washington Bullets (1974-1997) before changing their name again in 1997 to the Washington Wizards to move away from the violent overtones of the Bullets name.
