A Russian hockey center, Evgeni Malkin was the second overall pick in the 2004 NHL Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins. He made headlines when he broke a contract with Russian hockey club Metallurg Magnitogorsk to join the Penguins for the 2006-2007 season.
