He spent the next three years in technical college learning the art of carpentry. During his last year, he studied advanced joinery, where he perfected his skills in cabinet making and other high quality finishing carpentry.
When he wasn't studying, Ed made the time to pursue his acting career -- performing in local theatre productions and appearing in several television commercials. He continued to work in the building industry while balancing his acting career. Often, he found himself finishing a play and then returning to a building site, which he says would always keep his feet firmly on the ground.
After college, Ed landed the lead role of Eddie Moliano on the U.K. television series Dream Team, a drama about a premiership soccer team. He also hosted several television programs, ranging from dating shows to live music shows. In 2002, his popularity increased when he became the host of Fear Factor U.K..
In early 2004, Ed made the move from the U.K. to Los Angeles to further pursue his acting career. He was thrilled when given the opportunity to join the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition design team. Now he will be able to use his carpentry skills along with his love of hosting.
"The icing on the cake," he said, "is that we get to help out some pretty fantastic families along the way."
