A Cuban baseball pitcher, Jose Contreras dominated international competition before defecting to the United States to play against the best in the major leagues. First off to a rocky start with the
New York Yankees, Contreras found himself with the
Chicago White Sox and dominating hitters en route to the ChiSox to the World Series title in 2006, the team's first since 1919.
Sporting a protective boot on his left leg and moving gingerly on crutches, injured pitcher Jose Contreras (ruptured Achilles tendon) made a rare appearance in the White Sox locker room before Saturday's game.
